There is an urgent and crucial need to address the lack of access to justice gap of 4 billion people. In fact, beyond the 4 billion in fragile and emerging countries, also many people in developed countries struggle for effective and efficient means to find justice.

This issue is complex. The diversity of approaches that can be adopted was acknowledged. It is important to take both a top-down institutional reform as well as a bottom-up empowerment approach. Well designed innovation can be a connector between the two: developing justice innovations around societal challenges, involving citizens, government institutions and businesses. Justice innovation is not justice improvement and optimization. With innovation we leapfrog wicked issues.

In this workshop the role of geospatial information management in justice innovation will be explored.
